Urbana (conference)

Urbana is a major Christian student missions conference sponsored by InterVarsity Christian Fellowship for college students. Urbana is a discerning space to discover where gifts, dreams, and calling meet God’s global mission. It’s a place for college and graduate students, faculty, recent graduates, and ministry leaders to find friends and mentors who share their passions, who welcome their partnership, and who can put their skills and education to work.
Many have found even more at Urbana. They’ve discovered that the only way to truly find your life is to lose it. And they’ve gone on to spread the good news of Jesus on their campuses and to the ends of the earth, committing to do whatever God calls them to. They’ve served refugees, fed the hungry, translated Scripture, planted churches, and started businesses that have transformed communities.
Since 1946, God has called nearly 300,000 people to explore giving their whole life to God’s global mission at Urbana Conferences. Participants have been challenged by speakers like Billy Graham, John Stott, Elisabeth Elliot, Tom Skinner, Lisa Espineli Chinn, and Oscar Muriu. And they’ve responded. Throughout the North American missions community, Urbana has been known to be more effective than any other conference at mobilizing students toward God’s global mission.
Each Urbana lasts 5 days. The first Urbana was held in 1946 in Toronto, and since then, it has generally been held every three years. From 1948–2003, Urbana took place at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, with the primary venue after 1963 being the Assembly Hall (now State Farm Center), the school's basketball arena. Because of insufficient space at the University of Illinois campus, Urbana 06 was moved to St. Louis, Missouri, at The Americas Center and the Edward Jones Dome.
As the largest student missions conference in the world, Urbana:
* provides space for individuals to discern God’s will for their life
* brings together speakers and participants of different ethnicities and backgrounds
* offers immersion in Scripture through Bible studies, preaching, and the arts
* draws leaders from 250+ missions organizations and seminaries who are eager to mentor and connect with students
* equips participants to share the gospel in their own backyard and all over the world
